Leftover takeaway rice may be either a burden or a gift, depending on your point of view. For us, the latter is clearly the case, as fried rice serves as the foundation for a fantastically redesigned supper. (If you aren’t going to use the rice right away, freeze it in a zip-top bag or airtight container, preferable after freezing it in a single layer on a sheet pan to eliminate clumping and speed up thawing and cooking.)
Fried rice is a great weekday dish, whether you want to improvise with what you have on hand or follow a recipe. Here are a few recipes from our past that are wonderful as stated yet easy to modify. They are so tasty that you may wind yourself purchasing additional rice to create them.

What is Fried Rice?
It’s a popular and savory dish made with cooked rice, finely chopped veggies, and seasonings. Despite being a staple cuisine in many Southeast Asian nations, it is often eaten as street food in India, and it pairs nicely with Manchurian gravy or dal preparations.
Here is a Super Easy and Delicious Fried Rice Recipe
Fried Rice in a Hurry !
Fried rice prepared using leftover rice and anything else is in the fridge! This dish just takes 15 minutes to make and is perfect for a fast evening supper or lunch.
- Prep Time5 mins
- Cook Time10 mins
- Course: Entree
- Cuisine: Asian
- Servings: 4 bowls
- Calories: 380kcal
- 2 tbsp. vegetable oil
- 1 tsp. minced garlic
- 1 tsp. ginger paste
- four large eggs
- 3 cups cooked rice (for fresh rice alternatives, see article)
1 cup chopped crimini mushrooms (other mushrooms may be used)
1/4 head cabbage, finely chopped
1 jalapeño pepper, seeded and finely chopped (depending on your spicy tolerance)
1/2 cup frozen peas 1 cup frozen broccoli
When the oil is heated, add the jalapeño peppers, cabbage, and mushrooms and cook for 5 minutes, or until the mushrooms are golden brown.
Cook for 30 seconds, or until the minced garlic and ginger paste are aromatic.
In a glass, whisk the eggs with a fork and then pour into the pan; heat for 1 to 2 minutes, or until they just begin to come together.
Stir in the day-old rice for approximately 3 minutes, or until the egg clings to the rice as it cooks (great tip courtesy of Pinch of Yum).
Finally, add two tablespoons of soy sauce, sesame oil, turmeric, salt, and pepper to the frozen veggies.
Remove from the fire, add the remaining soy sauce, garnish with green onions, and serve right away!
Notes: Although I’ve specified the veggies I had on hand, you may substitute nearly any vegetable in this recipe. Best. Weeknight. Ever. Meal.
Fresh veggies should be cooked for at least a minute or two (and well washed before cutting), whereas frozen vegetables take less time.
Experiment with various veggies or spices if you desire! The following components are listed in alphabetical order: oil > fresh veggies > ginger, garlic > eggs > rice > frozen vegetables with spice. Let your hair down!

Why will you Enjoy this Recipe?
It just took 15 minutes to prepare. This is one of the easiest and most delicious dinners you can cook if you have a pot of rice on hand.
Exceptionally adaptive. This is a clean your fridge supper since you can simply modify the tastes by adding or removing veggies dependent on what’s in your fridge.
Delicious with fresh or frozen veggies. For this recipe, I normally blend fresh veggies (mushrooms) with frozen vegetables (such as peas or broccoli).
There are vegan and gluten-free choices available. To make this vegan, use an egg replacement (such as Just Egg) and gluten-free tamari in lieu of the soy sauce.
Variations and Ingredients
You’ll need rice, eggs, any veggies you have in the fridge, sesame oil, soy sauce, and basic spice to prepare this fried rice. Let’s take a look at each of them separately, as well as some modifications. Broccoli, frozen peas, mushrooms, cabbage, and jalapenos were all utilized.
What Kinds of Vegetables Should you Use?
This dish may be made with either fresh or frozen veggies. Frozen broccoli, peas, cauliflower, and maize are all great additions to fried rice. Cabbage, carrots, and mushrooms, particularly when used fresh, are also wonderful in fried rice. Just be sure you start with fresh veggies and then finish with frozen vegetables.
Can you Make Fried Rice with Fresh Rice?
For creating rapid fried rice, day-old rice may be preferred. When rice is made ahead of time and stored in the refrigerator, it dries up and gets crisper. If you simply prepared some fresh rice, don’t worry. Spread the cooked fresh rice out on a baking sheet. Allow part of the water to evaporate right away. It’ll just take a bit longer.
How do you Prepare Vegan Fried Rice?
You may simply use an egg replacement, such as Just Egg, for the eggs. It has the same texture and function as rice (binding the rice with the veggies and seasonings), but it is vegan. The rest is already vegan.
Tips for Making the Best-Fried Rice
- Utilize cold rice! As previously said, I like to cook my fried rice using leftover rice from the day before. The secret is to properly dry and chill the rice, whether fresh or leftover. When rice is put to the skillet while still warm, it might turn soggy, which is undesirable in fried rice.
- In this meal, combine soy sauce, sesame oil, and a pinch of turmeric. I’m crazy about offbeat recipes these days. Soy sauce and sesame oil are traditional additions, but I’ve noticed that turmeric gives rich color and taste to the meal that I appreciate. As you season and adjust the taste, add a splash of soy sauce towards the end.
- Cook over medium-high heat. My usual cooking temperature is medium, but this is an exception. Turning up the heat toasts the rice while simultaneously frying it rather than steaming it and puts the eggs and veggies together wonderfully.
- Only use one pan (or pot). Not only is dinner done in 15 minutes, but no dishes are required. I start by frying my vegetables, then add eggs, rice, and spice (along with any frozen vegetables that need to be cooked rapidly at the end). I finish it with a splash of soy sauce. Delicious one-pot dish. Oh, and I cook this in my cast iron skillet or Dutch oven.
Suggestions for Storage and Serving
Because this fried rice only takes 15 minutes to prepare, I suggest cooking it from scratch whenever feasible. Is it necessary to store it in the fridge or freeze it? Portion them into sealed containers and throw them in. It may be stored in the refrigerator for up to 5 days! When you’re ready to eat, pop them in the microwave (try not to cook this fried rice more than once).
This fried rice goes well with a variety of foods, but my favorite way to eat it is with a curry or soup (like my Thai butternut squash soup). It is unusual, but you will like it.
Is t Safe to Eat Leftover Rice, Whether Fried or Not?
Yes, as long as it has been kept and warmed correctly. Any leftover rice from this dish should be refrigerated within a few hours after cooking. Furthermore, as long as the fried rice is cooked in a pan at high heat, there should be no difficulty.
The rice should keep for up to 5 days. If it seems moldy, smells bad, or does not appear fresh, throw it away.
Which Oil is Best for Making Fried Rice?
Any oil, whether unflavored, neutral, or flavored, may be used to compliment the fried rice dish. Because the veggies and rice are stir-fried over a high flame or heat, the oil used in fried rice dishes should have a high smoke point. Fried rice dishes benefit from sesame oil, canola oil, peanut oil, and avocado oil.
Why did My Fried Rice Become Soggy?
If you use hot cooked rice, the fried rice will turn mushy due to the sticky nature of the rice. Allow the cooked rice to fully cool before adding it to the veggies. When stir-frying the veggies and rice, the heat should be set to high. A nonstick pan is suggested for fried rice dishes.
What Foods Pair Well with Fried Rice?
Fried rice works nicely with any dal dish or Manchurian sauce, such as gobi Manchurian, veg Manchurian gravy, baby corn Manchurian gravy, gobi pakora, veg pakora. If you want to keep it simple, only a tomato sauce will complement this fried rice dish, imparting a mild sweet taste to the fried rice.

Short grain rice may contain more starch and become sticky as a result. Use freshly cooked rice in this dish. Fried rice made from leftover rice is another option. To minimize additional cooking, newly cooked rice must be rinsed with cold water after cooking. Before using cooked rice in fried rice recipes, lay it out on a dish to dry entirely. What Vegetables are Included in Fried Rice Recipes?
Chopped onions, spring onions, garlic, bell pepper, cabbage, chile, carrot, and beans are all used in fried rice dishes. To add variation, we may add baby corn, broccoli, snow peas, mushrooms, and peas.

What is the Best-Fried Rice Recipe?
Nonsticky rice is essential for preparing the greatest fried rice dish. Long-grained rice should be used instead of short-grained rice. Before adding the cooked rice to the veggies, allow it to cool fully. Also, over high heat, stir fry the finely chopped veggies, taking careful not to overcook them or they will turn mushy.
It must preserve its crunchiness as well as its form. The only flavor components in real fried rice are soy sauce and vinegar. Soy sauce may also be used to eliminate or minimize salt. With pepper, red, or green chili sauce, we may alter the heat. After adding the cooked rice to the vegetables, stir thoroughly over high heat to give the rice a smokey taste.
How do you Make Perfect Nonsticky Fried Rice?
To produce nonsticky rice, soak the rice in water for 20 minutes. After 20 minutes, take a vessel. Bring the water to a boil in a saucepan. Half-fill the jug with soaked and drained rice. Add a teaspoon of oil. Cook the rice until it is almost done but still separated and not mushy. Drain and chill the rice in a colander. To protect them from drying out, cover and put them away. You’ll have amazing nonsticky rice immediately.

Fresh-cooked: You can create superb fried rice using fresh rice if you spread it out on a dish or tray while it’s still hot and give it a few minutes to enable some surface moisture to evaporate. Day-old rice clumps easily, so you’ll need to break it up by hand before stir-frying.
